Back Bay represents elegant living in Boston and has since the turn of the last century. Well within the heart of Boston and alongside the Charles River. This neighborhood is not only picturesque, but also home to many of the city’s best shops and restaurants. Mirroring the city of Paris, France, Back Bay is polished, sophisticated, and sensible. Residential charm spreads throughout the tree-lined boulevards, boutique windows, sidewalk cafés, swan-shaped boats and various parks. The predominantly vertical architecture means plenty of stairs but is only a small part of residents’ active lifestyles. Other than walking the streets of infamous Newbury Street, residents are often seen jogging or setting up a game of croquet on the Esplanade. Overall, the residents of Back Bay happily trade space for the Boston lifestyle and are proud to be a part of the community. Walkable avenues and ample green space, the Back Bay is ideal for the active set.
The biggest draw to Back Bay, other than its proximity and clean landscaping, is Newbury Street. Home to Boston’s most upscale shops, haute local jewelers, the Public Garden, galleries, independent boutiques and sidewalk cafés are an attraction to those far and wide. Every Boston foreigner puts Newbury Street high on their list of must-go-to hot spots. Outside of Newbury Street, residents enjoy Back Bay’s several popular bars, restaurants, music and conversations which are carried out across the lively streets day and night.
While other neighborhoods in Boston are favored for their new architecture, and industrial life, Back Bay is praised for its Paris inspired landscape. In creating this residential district, early city planners filled in hundreds of acres of tidal flats. Now, sidewalk cafes and refined boutiques can be found at every corner giving off the intended European feel. Still embodying the Boston city life, Back Bay’s slower pace and luxury fashion draw, make it less similar to Boston neighborhoods and more like a taste of France.
