South Boston MA

If you’re looking for an authentic Boston town, look no further than South Boston. Representing classic Boston with easy commutes, walks along the waterfront, and a real sense of community are all attributes of a place the locals call “Southie.” A combination of new construction and traditional architecture, Southie is one of the oldest and most storied Boston neighborhoods. Despite its age, new construction and accessibility to all Boston’s reach have allowed South Boston to emerge as one of Boston’s hottest areas.

Community

As a rising Boston hotspot, many different groups consider South Boston to be their home. Ranging from affordable rentals to million-dollar condos, Southie’s real estate market has strengthened significantly in the last decade. With a seemingly unlimited number of rentals, people are flooding into this neighborhood. Residents are a well-balanced spread of young professionals with new jobs in the city and empty nesters who sought to downsize after selling their homes in the suburbs. These groups both enjoy the vibrant hustle of the town and the lively restaurant scene. Even more recently, the last generation of Southie residents fell in love with the city and created a new group that includes young families, who upgraded their first rentals and now choose to raise their families here. These families can be seen frequenting M Street park or walking around Castle Island. All that reside in Southie are avid supporters of the city and their homes. They take great pride in their communities and work to keep their combination of city and neighborhood-feel.

Appeal

As Southie’s real estate prices rise, so do the residents looking to live in the new and improved neighborhood. Over the last few years, there has been a surge in new construction across South Boston on both the East Side and the West Side. The construction is creating a better sense of connection across the entire neighborhood, both literally and figuratively. The Broadway Village corner is now connected to the South End by various restaurants and high-end grocery stores, and the A Street corridor feels fully connected to the Fort Point and Seaport neighborhoods. In terms of mental connection, access to all city points has created a more cohesive town vibe that allows residents to feel more tied to their community. The new access does not replace but rather complements the old spirit of Southie – a feature that attracts new life and creates new generations of loyal residents.

Unique Aspect

When moving to a new place, there is no doubt a mental list of requirements the city must have before you agree to settle there. This list may include easy commutes, decent living space, affordable rent, and access to nature for most city-dwellers. Like other aspects of life, residents look for compromise, usually aiming to meet two or three of their list requirements. In South Boston, compromise is not necessary. In this neighborhood, residents can easily reach major highways and airports while enjoying the ocean’s waterfront views – a feature unmatched by others. There is really something for everyone here.
